Ganzhou City

Home of the floating bridge that dates back to the Song Dinasty

Ganzhou Pavilion is part of the city wall in Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province

Ganzhou is located in the south of  Jiangxi Province sharing boundary with Guangdong Province and Hunan Province with a population of 8,5 million people.

The city itself is like an “average” city in China, and I can only recommend a small part of it maybe for a couple of hours walk:

The top thing to do in Ganzhou is to walk along the city wall that was built in the Song Dynasty and to visit the pontoon bridge which is one of the two ones in Jiangxi Province.

The city walls runs along…

…the river

Local fishermen selling their daily catch by the Gan river, Jiangxi

This is one of two pontoon bridges in Ganzhou. The two rivers Gong and Zhang come together in Ganzhou to form the Gan River.

One pontoon bridge spans each of these two tributaries near the point where they meet.

Fishermen boats just under the wall and the pavilion

The bridge is just long wooden planks fastened together…

…sitting atop about 60 floating boats.

Okay, this might only be an interest for me, but I walked through the old town in the evening that is a subject to a complete demolition / rebuild project.

The place is …

…rather spooky at night.
