China - Offscale Massiveness Reloaded

Self - Travel Overland Itineraries in China

Vast landmass of pretty much everything you can imagine; towering peaks, thrilling architecture, spectacular waterfalls, diversed ethnic group, ethereal fairyland mountains, vivid lakes and endless variety of food.

These road trip itineraries are not necessarily designed for backpackers, its for those who prefer living through places rather than rushing them through with a travel agent. I believe that traveling with public transport always gives the true insight of any country / place.

Xinjiang Province

Xinjiang in Chinese means “a new border” and it has had its name since the 18th century during the Qing dynasty. Located in the North West of China, Xinjiang does not only have beautifully chromatic desert, blue sky with elegant white clouds or all year round snow capped mountains.

This is the only place in China where you see both Turkic-looking Uyghurs, blond blue-eyed Tajiks, mosques and Zoroastrian temples coexisting alongside each other.

Enormous variety of culinary, cultural and geological opportunities. Multicultural reload at it’s best

Itineraries from Shenzhen / Guangzhou, Guangdong Province

Shenzhen, once a small fishing town, now the ultimate high-tech center of China is located in the south of China, north to Hong Kong.

This area is usually off the path when travellers / foreigners come to visit China, but if you are in the area for longer, these itineraries give you some ideas where to escape from the “city vibe”.

Hello,

IMG_2954.JPG

My name is Katalin and I have been traveling in China (on and off) for three years now. I mainly focus on border provinces as I am more fascinated by exploring the life of minorities. I can’t stand travel agencies - totally disagree with their principle of keeping the “secret of how to travel” to themselves.

My favourite way of traveling is by public transport, I do it usually with minimal planning and just let the locals “drive” me to the spots.

This site is my experience of how to travel with no agency, by yourself taking local transport to these majestic places in China.

If I am not traveling you can find me hiking somewhere in the mountains / bushes or taking photos.
