You would be so surprised at how cold it can be in December in Hobart. Especially up at Mount Wellington. It’s an amazing - winding however - drive up with lots of scenery to admire as you climb higher and higher.
I went up for sunrise, and it was freezing. I mean almost real freezing - 5C - in the middle of the summer!
It’s a 30 minute drive from Hobart center, has got various walking tracks and great view of the city.
For most of its existence, Tasmania was known as a faraway island at the bottom of Australia, a grim 19th-century redoubt where British colonial officers imprisoned convicts in the harshest of the empire’s jails and killed much of the aboriginal population.
And guess what? The largest, privately owned modern art museum is happened to be located here, on the edge of the world showcasing a massive amount of modern and older collection.
Spoiler - do NOT visit this place UNLESS you have a sense of humor.
I never considered myself to be an art person. This museum, however is something truly creative and entertaining with a wicked sense of humour.
