Gunnamatta Beach

My mega favourite beach on the Mornington Peninsula - especially for photography.

Did you know the rule that the best beaches are always the one where the local surfers go? Okay, this beach is very favourite for the surfers in Mornington Peninsula, so therefore its awesome!

It has got very good access via stairs - same like pretty much everywhere in Victoria, but i dont think its really a safe beach to swim because of the currents and the rips.

Easy, 100m walk from the carkpark

As Gunnamatta beach faces south / south west - it’s one of the perfect places for star glazing or hunting for the famous Aurora Australis in Victoria.

The core of the milky way is visible between March and October usually - perfect for night photos!

Don’t worry about safety - I find Victoria one of the safest places to go out shooting at night. I always do that myself as its hard to find a photography buddy for me!
