Kuqa Tianshan Canyon

Kuche Grand Canyon alias Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon should not be missed for any visitor to this part of Xinjiang. Actually the drive there is part of the experience as you weave through incredible landforms weathered from sandstone by wind and rain over centuries. Make sure you make this a day trip and find a taxi driver who is willing to stop along the way for the myriad photos you are sure to want to take.

Once you get to the canyon itself, allow yourself at least three hours to do it justice. Weaving up the river bed for around five kilometres, if it is all open, and surrounded by towering woven shades of red sandstone you will feel yourself transported into a magical wonderland.
