Dragon Pond — DOZENSOFLIVES

I stopped by these lakes on my way to the Tianshan Canyon and it was recommended by my driver. I have been googling the place since, and to be honest have not found a lot a info.

All i can say is that scenery of the road after and before the pond is just awesome. Nestled deep among the Tianshan Mountain, 120 km north of Kuqa. It has two high mountain lakes, respectively named the Big Dragon Pond and the Small Dragon Pond.

Excellent photo options - same like all over Xinjiang Province I guess.

How to get to Kuqa, Xinjiang Province

From Hotan:

There is a bus from Hotan to Kucha every day and the bus leaves in the afternoon and arrive in the morning, ticket price around 170yuan , you can book book the ticket before the date of bus departure.

From Urumqi

By air

There are several daily flights from Urumqi - 90 minutes- to Kuqa

By train

There are five train leaving from Urumqi to Kuqa, the journey takes 8 hours - tickets from 10 USD

From Kashgar

By train

There are daily 4 trains leaving from Kashgar towards Urumqi stoping at Kuqa (8 hours ride, price from 15USD)

By car

Alternatively you can rent a driver with a car
